What is better than camping coffee?
We are off on our first camping trip of the 2021 season. As we settle into our new camper, I am thinking through all of the essential gear to equip the camper.
There is something about a hot cup of coffee enjoyed after a night of camping that makes it taste so much better. Coffee has always been essential no matter what type of camping we were doing.
Backpacking Coffee Set-up
When we backpacked in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains our biggest concern was weight. We wanted to be able to enjoy a hot mug of coffee while hiking through the Rockies. We bought a french press system, packed ground coffee beans, and carried small propane tanks to heat the coffee up in.
Popup Camping Coffee Set-up
Once we started camping with our kids, we packed away our backing set up and moved into a popup camper. This felt like a huge upgrade as we no longer had to sleep on the ground and only pack what we were willing to carry.
Our coffee system got an upgrade as well. We used the ever-reliable Cuisinart Drip Coffee Maker. We became a bit more particular about the quality of our coffee beans so we started using whole beans and grinding them at the campsite.
We also started adding collagen to our coffee in the morning and felt that it helped with our joints so we have continued adding this supplement to our coffee.

Travel Trailer Camping Coffee Set-up
Now we feel spoiled with more cabinet space in our hard side travel trailer. We decided to go all out on our morning coffee and bought a second set of pour-over coffee essentials to keep full-time in the camper.
When we are home we limit ourselves to one cup of pour-over coffee each morning so we want it to be satisfying. This is the first year that we have decided to up our coffee game while on the road.
The pour-over system does take up more space and requires more specialized filters, but if you are ready to make a gourmet cup of coffee while camping here is a list of all you need:
