2020 REDCAMP Sleeping Bag Review

Here at Explore Camping Life, I’ve been writing a few reviews of different sleeping bags. I wrote one about the SOULOUT bag, which is very popular in the midwest, and one about the famous Oaksys.

But, there is one other sleeping bag that is worth talking about. Both the SOULOUT and Oaksys are great, but they can’t handle some of the colder climates and winter camping that I know some readers of Explore Camping Life prefer to go camping in. This other bag might be the most  “classic” sleeping bag for camping there is. I’m talking about, of course, the REDCAMP Cotton Flannel Sleeping bag.

The REDCAMP Cotton Flannel Sleeping Bag is designed to be your favorite companion for a camping trip. This cozy sleeping bag comes with different filling options, ranging from two to four pounds. The heavier filing options are designed for colder weather, while the lighter options are designed to be used in more temperate conditions.

There are two different color options available for this product. One has a dark blue exterior with a red flannel pattern on the inside and the other has a dark blue exterior with blue flannel inside.

Keep reading to learn more about the REDCAMP Sleeping Bag so you’ll be able to decide if you want to purchase this product for your next camping trip.

What I Like

There certainly is a lot to like about the REDCAMP sleeping bag. It is generously sized at 75 inches by 33 inches, so as long as you are under six feet three inches tall, you should fit comfortably inside of it. It is also designed to be very durable and is made using a polyester ripstop fabric to prevent it from fraying or tearing. The exterior of the bag is also waterproof. These features together will make it possible for you to get lots of use out of this product.

This option is available with three different cotton filling options depending on where you’ll be using it. There are two-, three-, and four-pound options to choose from, so you should be able to customize the weight of the bag to the climate you’ll be sleeping in as well as your personal preferences. The two-pound filing option is ideal for sleeping in temperatures between 50 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit, the three-pound option is best for sleeping in temperatures between 41 and 68 degrees Fahrenheit, and the four-pound option is best for temperatures between 32 and 59 degrees Fahrenheit. There is a drawstring closure at the top of the bag to stop cold air from getting in and making you chilly.

That being said, four points is typically good enough to go camping in most American locations (Alaska excluded), for most of  the year.

There are two-way zippers on this product that are designed to make it easy for both right- and left-handed users to open or close the bag. If you purchase two REDCAMP sleeping bags, you can even zip them together to create a larger bag. This would be a great option if you are going camping with your partner and want to create a cozy spot where you can keep each other warm. When connected with a second bag, the sleeping space will measure 75 inches by 66 inches.

When you are done using the sleeping bag, simply roll it up and use the built-in cords to secure the bag and keep it more compact. Your purchase of this product will also include a compressed sack. You can either use this to carry your sleeping bag or to hold other belongings when you are camping. Fortunately, even the four-pound fill bag isn’t prohibitively heavy, meaning you should be able to carry it in a backpack during your time camping.

Another reason to love this product is the money-back guarantee that is offered by REDCAMP. They provide a 365-day limited manufacturer warranty. Contact them if you are not satisfied with your purchase, and they will work with you to make it right.

What I Don’t Like

While there is a lot to like about the REDCAMP Cotton Flannel Sleeping Bag, there are a few key downsides that we should note to help you make an informed purchase. First, depending on how warm you like to be when you sleep, even the heaviest option may not keep you warm enough on a really cold night in the middle of winter. It just isn’t as thick or warm as some of the other sleeping bags on the market.

Of course, most people here don’t go camping in the middle of the winter or in locations like Alaska. If you are looking for a sub-zero sleeping bag, then this isn’t the one for you.

While it is nice that the outer layer is waterproof, the material used can be very noisy. If the sleeping bag rubs together or you move around when you sleep, it may sound like a plastic bag rustling. This, obviously, could be very annoying if you are trying to sleep or are a light sleeper.

This may not be as big of a deal, but there are only two different color options. If you are looking to match your sleeping bag with your tent or other camping accessories, the two available options may not make that possible.

Who is This Perfect For?

The REDCAMP Cotton Sleeping Bag is a great option to consider if you’ll be camping in climates where it doesn’t get close to or below freezing. You’ll be able to stay plenty warm and comfortable in these slightly warmer areas with this option.

You may also want to consider purchasing this sleeping bag if you plan on going camping with your spouse or partner. Since you’ll be able to connect two sleeping bags to make one larger bag, it will allow the two of you to snuggle up during a camping trip. Not only is this a great way to bond with your partner, but sleeping together will produce more body heat and you’ll both stay warmer.

Finally, you may also want to consider this option if you typically drive to your campsite or walk a short distance. It is a little heavier than some other options, so it may not be the best solution for backpackers. However, it is a great option if you won’t be walking and carrying it for very long distances.

My Final Verdict

The REDCAMP Cotton Sleeping Bag is a great product overall. With three different filling/weight options, you should be able to select the best design to meet your specific needs.

You’ll find this bag cozy and comfortable for your next camping trip. You’ll even be able to connect two bags to allow you and a partner to keep each other warm on a chilly night.

The REDCAMP Sleeping Bag can be packed up and unpacked quickly to keep campsite set up and teardown simple.

We think you’ll be satisfied with your decision to give the REDCAMP Cotton Flannel Sleeping Bag a try. Add it to your cart and place your order now so you’ll have it for your next camping trip.

See you at the campsite!
